Welcome to my blog!  Here you will find art lessons I have used in class, an explanation on the importance of art education, my work as a librarian, and much more!

My vision is to develop a collaborative learning environment that encourages risk-taking and supports a variety of learning styles.  Through a strong art curriculum students can become well-rounded critical thinkers who are socially and globally aware.

Art education is a fundamental subject that children need to experience in school, in order to help them get ahead in their future careers.  It is important for schools to incorporate art programs to help provide the best well rounded education for their students.

Unfortunately many schools are cutting their art department due to believing it is unnecessary for a child's future.  Yes, not every student is going to pursue becoming an artist, but the skills acquired in the art room improves a student's outlook and creativity.

Why Art Education is Important:

Albert Einstein once said, "The greatest scientists are artists as well."  Einstein was explaining the truth when he pointed out that it is vital to practice and learn the principles of art in order to develop critical thinking.  This skill carries over into all academic areas, whether it is science, math, history, geography, writing, or technology.  Art education provides students the techniques to think outside the box.  This is a crucial skill that is developed through the creation of art.  Having the ability to think outside of the box is a quality that sets one apart in their professional field, which will help children further succeed in the future.

Through the practice of art, one can develop the skills to view the world in another perspective, work around situations, and perceive various points of view.  These skills are developed through the use of imagination and is extensively practiced in the arts.  Imagination is an important part of critical thinking and a necessary technique used in real world endeavors.

The study of art allows people to contextualize other cultures by studying art work and artists from around the world.  Through my travel experience, I teach students about other cultures and various forms of art.  Students develop an understanding how other people live and see the world through creation and expression.

"When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come close to the conclusion that the gift of imagination has meant more to me than any talent for absorbing absolute knowledge...Imagination is more important than knowledge.  Knowledge is limited.  Imagination encircles the world."
