Morning Yoga Returns to Avoca West
This year, Mrs. Bowman and Mrs. Raczyla will be teaming up to offer three sessions for third through fifth graders on Friday mornings at 7:30. Our morning yoga class will help students start the day with calm and focused energy. Through breathing exercises, yoga postures, and playful collaborative activities, students will learn to strengthen their minds and bodies. Yoga can teach healthy habits for reducing stress and worry, focusing attention, and building self-confidence in addition to developing strength, balance, and flexibility. The benefits of yoga can stay with you for a lifetime...and it is FUN! Sign up with this form by September 29.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month. This is a "National" event because our most prominent national cultural institutions - The Library of Congress, National Archives, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian, among others - are explicitly paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.
Our own community includes many families who identify as Hispanic or Latinx and recognizing these contributions to enriching our lives is part of what makes our community special.
Here is a link to the National Website where you can learn more and dive deeper into learning about the generations of contributions made to our country by Hispanic Americans.
Additionally, by clicking on this link, you can watch one or more of the episodes from the groundbreaking documentary Latino Americans, produced by the Public Broadcasting Service. There will be a Book Club Style discussion of this on 10/10/2021 7-8:30 pm, sponsored by HEROS - Healing Everyday Racism in Our Schools which is a local group of all the New Trier Feeder schools. Everyone is welcome. We will discuss episodes 4-6. Episodes 1-3 were discussed this last week but it is not too late to join. Here is the link to register via Zoom.

PTC Membership
Thank you to everyone that has paid their PTC dues - we're still collecting them. You can either send cash or a check to your child's school office, or you can pay online via the online PayPal portal. If you want to access the AtoZ database, everyone needs to create a new account here even if you had an account on the old system. Don't forget to download the membership toolkit app on your phone. That's the new app that everyone has to use to access AtoZ. There are quick links on the app and website and if you have any other suggestions, please email Ann Heinz at [email protected].
