District Information, Event Details, and Volunteer Opportunities

Car Wash Fundraiser Success
Congratulations and thank you to all who were able to make our 8th-grade carwash a success! We reached our goal of $3,000 towards the 8th-grade celebration and class gift! A special thank you to all our supporters from donating supplies, parent volunteers, attendees of the event, and of course our 8th graders. Everyone working together on such a beautiful fall day made the event an absolute blast! Thank you again, from the 8th Grade Fundraising Committee

Avoca Diverse Learners
Happening tonight! Please join Avoca Diverse Learners this evening, September 28 from 7:45-8:45 p.m. for a Parents Zoom Meeting. A Zoom link will be emailed to parents on the ADL mailing list.  If you would like to join the list or simply attend this meeting, please contact parent leaders for the link: Louise Dechovitz, [email protected] or Helen Lucaitis, 312-550-2077 by text. ADL is a support and resource group for parents and caregivers of children with IEPs/504s and with all needs, including ADD, ADHD, anxiety, autism, depression, and dyslexia. We also have members whose children have no formal diagnosis. This event is open to parents/caregivers of students at Avoca West and Marie Murphy.

Avoca West Neighborhood Meeting
Join us tomorrow, September 29 at 6:00 pm for a Neighborhood Meeting at Avoca West. Learn about an opportunity the school district has to work with the Glenview Park District to turn an acre of land at Avoca West into a nature park and path. If you wish to attend, please RSVP to [email protected] so we can appropriately plan for seating and social distancing. For the full letter and more details, visit our District website here.

Avoca District Budget 2021-2022
Following a Public Hearing, the Board of Education approved the FY22 Budget at its September 23, 2021 meeting. The District Budget 2021-2022 can be accessed on the district's website here.

NEW! PTC Tea Company Fundraiser
Mark your calendar: The PTC is planning a school fundraiser with the Tea Company! It will run from October 4-12. Families will get 20% off their purchase and the company will give back 15% to the school. Location and more details are forthcoming.

Avoca West Choir Ensembles
Let's sing together again! Two of Avoca West's choral ensembles will be starting soon. Both ensembles are open to students in grades 1-5 and meet at 7:30 a.m.  Here you will find the description and permission slip for Gioso and for Comunita. Sing on! Contact Elizabeth Weismehl at [email protected] for further information. Thank you for your continued support of Choir and Music at Avoca. I can't wait to hear your children's voices raised in song!

Avoca West Morning Yoga
This year, Mrs. Bowman and Mrs. Raczyla will be teaming up to offer three sessions for third through fifth graders on Friday mornings at 7:30. Our morning yoga class will help students start the day with calm and focused energy. Through breathing exercises, yoga postures, and playful collaborative activities, students will learn to strengthen their minds and bodies. Yoga can teach healthy habits for reducing stress and worry, focusing attention, and building self-confidence in addition to developing strength, balance, and flexibility. The benefits of yoga can stay with you for a lifetime...and it is FUN! This Thursday, September 30 is the last day to sign up with this form

PTC Membership
Thank you to everyone that has paid their PTC dues - we're still collecting them. You can either send cash or a check to your child's school office, or you can pay online via the online PayPal portal. If you want to access the AtoZ database, everyone needs to create a new account here even if you had an account on the old system. Don't forget to download the membership toolkit app on your phone. That's the new app that everyone has to use to access AtoZ. There are quick links on the app and website and if you have any other suggestions, please email Ann Heinz at [email protected]
