DUE FRIDAY: 2022 Intercultural Night Registration
Avoca's largest and most diverse community-building event, the Intercultural Dinner and Talent Show is making its comeback on Friday, November 18. This year's theme is Reconnection. Event registration and payment are due this Friday, November 4.

Key Details:

Veterans Day Breakfast
It is a great honor for Avoca School District 37 to invite all Veterans and their families to attend the 14th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast at Marie Murphy School on Friday, November 11, 2022, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at Marie Murphy School.

Over the past fourteen years, Avoca has opened its doors to not only take part in an opportunity to serve those who have served our country but to learn and expose the students to the depth of character, sacrifice, and bravery being an American Veteran entails.

Please RSVP for the event by completing this Google form. You may also RSVP to Millie Grandys at 847-251-3617 or [email protected]. Walk-ins are welcome.

Wilmette Safety & Civics Committee
Volunteers are needed to help keep our schools and students safe!

The Safety & Civics Committee of Wilmette is looking for two representatives from District 37 (one from Avoca West and one from Marie Murphy Middle School) to serve alongside representatives from other Wilmette schools. The time commitment is one 1-2 hr morning meeting per month where committee members review and discuss current happenings related to local school safety, plan Bike to School Days (the Bike Rodeo!), and celebrate the crossing guards.

The history of the committee is that it started with a focus on pedestrian and bike safety and has expanded to safety on a variety of activities, including the internet, social media, and emotional/physical well-being resources. Wilmette D39 is a partner to Avoca D37 in many of their community presentations on these topics. The committee member's role is to engage as a D37 rep as well as share with the D37 admin any pertinent updates from the committee. For more information or to volunteer, please contact [email protected].

What: Pumpkin Pitch 🎃
When: November 5 & 12, 2022
Where: Village Hall Parking Lot and Centennial Parking Lot

Now that Halloween is over, have you thought about what to do with your pumpkins?

The Village of Wilmette will provide dumpsters for you to “pitch your pumpkins” so they can turn into compost rather than methane in a landfill. Painted gourds and pumpkins are okay, but you must remove all candles and decorations. Dumpsters will be in the Village Hall parking lot and the Centennial parking lot.

Please keep in mind pumpkins cannot be added to your street leaf pile but can be added to your compost bin, if you have one.

TIP: Place the pumpkins in a plastic bag or cardboard box to transport to the pumpkin pitch dumpsters.

Last year, we successfully composted 20,000 pounds of pumpkins at Wilmette's Pumpkin Pitch
