This is my nineteenth year as an art educator and my first year in District 37!

I graduated from South Dakota State University in 2002 with a B.S. in Visual Arts with emphasis in painting and printmaking. I also received a Masters in Art Education from the University of Sioux Falls in 2006.  I taught private art classes at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Sciences for ten years and taught K-12 art for 6 years in South Dakota. I moved to Illinois in 2012 where I began teaching at Woodland Middle School in Gurnee, IL. I taught there for 11 years. I finished my second Masters Degree in Learning and Technology in 2021 from WGU. I currently teach personal enrichment painting and drawing classes at the College of Lake County year-round. I have an art therapy background as well and teach functional art/art therapy classes at Stevenson High School ESY summer program. I have taught students from age 7 months to 100 years. I love art and and I love sharing my love of art with others!

One of my favorite things about art is that there is something for everyone. I prefer drawing, painting, and printmaking, but I also have extensive experience with ceramics and sculpture as well!  My goal as an art teacher is to help each students find something they like about art. I teach all of my students that art is a form of communication and they can use it to express themselves and tell their stories. I cannot wait to see how Marie Murphy students will express themselves and share their creativity with the world!
